Trompe L'oeil
In our class today we visited the LSAD visual communication students to collaborate on an optical illusion project. I got to catch up with some old friends and even work with them on a team. I tried to learn as much as I could from real graphic designers, seeing how they would approach a project, the way they come up with ideas and how they communicate these ideas. Sketching seems to be a mutual medium of communication throughout the design world.
So what is Trompe L'oeil and how can it be useful in the world of human centered design? We observe the world around us through our 5 senses. This video talks about a project that turns colours into sounds which could be used to assist blind people complete simple task and commute at a faster pace. If this were the case there would be less of a need for a cane to be used.
As the project got underway I couldn't help but notice that teamwork was essential and we were bouncing ideas off each other with such fluency. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see their capability as digital graphic designers, I was hoping to learn a thing or two on how to approach the topic on illustrator. The presentation of each groups projects at the end was a great way to share idea's and see some great pieces of work. After watching the video above I wish I took advantage of the power of colours and their ability to trick the eye depending on their context.
