Dublin Bound

The fourth class of the semester and our first of two fields trips. our destination: Dublin. I really enjoyed the atmosphere on the way up to Dublin granted our tired heads tried to catch another hour or two of sleep before our arrival. Our first stop, the Eileen Gray exhibition in the national museum. Embarrassingly enough I hadn't really heard of her before but hey that's what I was there for right?

The whole exhibition was amazing I can't believe I had never heard of such a visionary designer that was so ahead of her time. If any of her furniture was to be dated I would put it straight into the 70's, however most of her work was created in the 30's and 40's when she lived in Paris. As we were guided through the exhibition what stood out for me the most was her E-1027 masterpiece which she designed herself without a degree in the field of architecture. I found this extremely impressive, it stemmed hope in me that I shouldn't limit myself by my job description or course of study. She clearly learned from others and just had the love and curiosity to go for it. Her daring endeavour resulted in a beautiful house on the beach in the south of France.

Later we had a few hours of the explore the city of Dublin and hunt out some design gems around the city. Unfortunately, some were closed down but we managed to find one or two coffee houses along the way stopping on our travels for a quick photo shoot. I had a lot of fun being outside Limerick for a few hours. Albeit we were in the same country there was subtle differences that couldn't be ignored like the increase in cultural diversity and overall population of people sprawled around the city.

I wait in anticipation for our week long trip to London in week 9. Observing the cultural differences will hopefully offer something I can bring back with me to Ireland that will benefit my design career. London here I come!

 My Deign philosophy:

Design to me is creating to help others. It's vital to find your form of inspiration through whatever means, for me it is music and simplistic designs. My design is constantly evolving and developing, learning from the world around me.
