Sizzle reel practice run.
Today's class was a real hands on experience. We didn't spend much time in the class room. A quick presentation on video making and some quick tips from a few class mates and we were on our way. Our group of four took the design thinking process in coming up with an idea. We sat in front of a white board brainstorming as many ideas as possible. Our brief? To make a 30 second video that conveys a certain emotion or a journey. We went with the relatable feeling of being hangry, a mix of angry and hungry. Our story line was set, each scene was roughly outlined and we were on our way.
And so the filming commenced, I really enjoyed being behind the camera, I was secretly ecstatic to get to use my new camera to shoot some videos. The whole process of making the video was extremely enjoyable with passers by looking on with curiosity as to what we were filming. We tried our best to pay heed to each camera angle used with the rule of thirds in mind.
The post production was a lot of fun too. We had an idea on what kind of theme we were trying to achieve as well as the music we wanted to use. Unfortunately we had no access to a good microphone so music was needed to create a certain emotion or idea in the video. It took some cutting of scenes and intertwining them into each other to try and create a flowing 30 second movie.
After this class I really got an appreciation for how much effort has to go in to make just a short 30 second video, however in saying that I really enjoyed the experience and can't wait to start shooting the real thing.
